Las Vegas RV Parks - What NOT To Do!
Ty and I drove our motorhome the 284 miles from Desert Hot Springs, CA and arrived safely in Las Vegas, NV around 8:30pm tonight.
At least that part went well! (Here’s a pic of ME in the driver’s seat - yep, I took my turn driving our big whopping 34 footer RV complete with Honda CR-V in tow!)
While Ty was driving, I surfed Google Maps (yay Verizon EVDO) and called up several RV Parks to check rates and availability.
I was confident we’d find a good deal at a nice park. I already knew several parks had a “just-show-up” policy, but I wanted to make a reservation anyway.
Prices ranged from $16 per night to $75. Being the frugal Scot I am, and knowing my hubby loves to save a buck too - before I knew it, I was giving my credit card # to the $16-a-night place. “The gal sounds pleasant, it’s part of a big hotel-casino… can’t be that bad,” I thought to myself.
Well, holy crap - here we are in a bloody parking lot right next to the 515 freeway and the traffic noise is hellish. Aaaaargh - what was I thinking??? Sheesh, darn cheapskate. Hmph. Forget staying here for nine nights - I’ll hunt for a better park tomorrow. (There are full hook ups here - it’s a big city parking lot… with RV hook ups! LOL)
Park-n-Ride style RV resorts aside… I have to say it’s confirmed: I really dislike Las Vegas. (Very sorry Vegas fans). It’s filled with smokers, gamblers, and diners.
Yeah, I know there’s awesome entertainment, and incredible hotels with out-of-this world features, and all-you-can-gorge - I mean eat - buffets. LOL.
But, I’m such a California smoking snob - my sensitive nose cannot abide the ashtray odor everywhere. And, my inner critic doesn’t get why people choose to sit in front of these machines pumping it full of money.
To add to my stresses, my desktop threatened to die on me. I had to fire her up four times before the monitor kicked in. Drat, could be the video card. Luckily, I have my laptop for backup. And, I found where the nearest Geek Squad is, in case I need them tomorrow.
If you could see me right now: I’ve got my earlobe hooked up to my emWave Personal Stress Reliever (darn thing wouldn’t work at first - had to hook up to AC).
It’s a nifty device - takes your pulse and you have to synch your breathing with it. Right now, I’m a total red light… it’s supposed to be green. Ha ha - stressing me out more. (I haven’t used it in eons - only got it on ‘cuz I stumbled across it looking for a CD).
Whew, the mobile lifestyle takes work, as I talked about here. I’ll go put a meditation CD on shortly and hit the sack - hopefully that’ll drown out the incessant traffic noise…. in the city that never sleeps!
Manyana…

One thing you may not know about Las Vegas, smoking is no longer legal in any shopping malls and restaurants, as of last November. Try the Fashion Show Mall in the middle of the strip (across from the Wynn). There is no smoking anywhere in there, and a wide variety of restaurants from which to choose!
October 4th, 2007 at 3:21 pmOh wow - thanks a million for the heads up!!! I’m guessing that’s restaurants independent of the casinos?
We ate at the Main Street hotel/casino/buffet last night and they for sure had a smoking/non-smoking section… or maybe it was just wafting in from the casino, I’m not sure.
Tonight our conference was at the Tuscany Hotel - same thing… smoke wafting everywhere.
Reminds me of a comment I heard Wayne Dyer make on one of his recent PBS specials - “Having a smoking and non-smoking section in the same room is like having a peeing and non-peeing section of the same pool!” UGH!! Yeah, very gross, very graphic. But kinda brings it home, eh?!
Cheers,

You’re welcome!
Yes, the Fashion Show Mall is a very large mall, with shops, restaurants and free fashion shows, independent of any of the casinos. Their restaurants range from a standard food court, to more expensive restaurants.
I like the swimming pool analogy.
In a few years, you’ll also be able to visit “City Center”. This is a place where you’ll be able to stay (temporarily or permanently!), shop, eat and do everything except smoke and gamble. These types of places are getting more popular. Part of the reason is that many of the 3,000+ people who move (not visit, but move here) to Vegas each month (actually, 8,000 people move here each month, but 5,000 move out) are coming from California.

November 19th, 2007 at 8:58 pmIf you guys are ever in the Lake Havasu Arizona area and want some fresh air and beautiful lake views, check out Campbell Cove RV resort. No casinos, but lots of clean air. Road Runjner RV park on 4711 Boulder Hwy in Las Vegas is fairly inexpensive and close to the Station Casino. That is where I usually land when visiting Las Vegas and I’m a full time RVer.
