Bear Alert, World’s Biggest Tree, and Boondocking!

We’re deep in the heart of the Sequoias here. (Okay, I’m posting this from the foothills before heading back up into them thar hills!)

We spotted this little guy at the road’s edge the other day. Cute, eh? He looked so cuddly and tame. Hmm, best not to get too close though.

This is major bear land. The signs are all over the campgrounds warning against leaving food even visible inside your vehicle.

Bears are intelligent creatures, and if they get too aggressive in pursuing human’s foods, unfortunately, the Rangers have to put them down. Awww.

Apparently, if you come face-to-face with a bear, you need to stand tall and make a lot of noise to frighten them away. Okay, at 6′5" that’s Ty’s job. LOL.

Speaking of tall, we got to see the World’s Biggest Tree - General Sherman. He’s biggest not by height or diameter, but by volume: 52,500 square feet (and 2,200 years old!)

Tonight, we’re going to try ‘boondocking’ - that is camping with NO hookups - at Potwisha Campground.

To be honest, I’m a tad nervous. No electricity? (Okay, batteries and generator). No water or drain hookups is fine for a few days, as we have a 75 gallon potable water tank and the same in draining tanks. But no internet? (Too far in the sticks). Boo-hoo.

Still, it is a beautiful campsite. We went to check it out yesterday - here’s a river running through just down the embankment:

Is there anything you would miss most ‘away from it all?’

Mari please don’t be leaving bread crumbs or porridge for the bears now. How can we save you if you are stranded in the wild with not INTERNET ?????
Just try to stay calm and we’ll notify the rangers!
Hey, I wanna see General Sherman!
