RV Park Rates - Where’s the Deals?
Woo-hoo, it’s great to be back in San Diego!
I wrote about our social life in my last post… we’re sure making up for "lost time" as party animals this week!
I love it.
We’re very blessed to have such a big community of friends and extended family here.

We got lucky with the RV park too. I kept trying to get into Campland on the Bay - a very popular destination park for regular RVers but they were maxed out with no cancellations. (They now take reservations two years in advance!) And, apparently, regular snowbirders come back year after year.
However, the Mission Bay RV Resort is right next door across the bay… and it’s only about 20% full right now. It’s like an undiscovered treasure! No kids, no pets, no noise. Great view. Aaah, this is the life.

I do like to shop around for good rates and great facilities, of course. Rates in destination resorts and big cities can be as much as $50 or more a night.
My goal is to keep the average to $20/night, if possible. With so many State Campgrounds at $10-15/night, that’s fairly doable. It does depend on how long you reserve - at the Mission Bay RV Resort. Bay view sites are as high as $80/night! But, we’re booked in for a month, and our rate works out at just $30/night. Pretty decent for a big town park.
Of course, there’s always drydocking (or boondocking, as it’s known) - to hook up or not to hook up.
Along with Google maps and this Mashup (a Google map for campgrounds), we’ve found it particularly useful to be members of certain camping clubs:
- Passport America (50% discount)
- Camp Club USA (50% discount)
- Escapees (15-50% discount)
- Good Sam Club (typically 10% discount)
- AAA (typically 10% discount)
Ty and I are proud to be debt-free (and own our own home free and clear!) and frugal. Shopping around for good deals tends to come naturally to us. Actually, though I’m 100% Scottish (Canadian-born), Ty’s often more "Scottish" than I am. LOL!
If you’re thinking of RVing at all - part or full-time, I do recommend surfing the Forums at Escapees for a ton of excellent information.

Hi Mari
I have added a link to your blog site from my http://www.stuartcrawford.com website. I love the Mission Bay area of San Diego, I stayed at the Hilton resort last year for a few days while down there. It is truly amazing the beauty that God provided in that area.
Have a wonderful holiday
Stuart
