We’re On The Road Again! Lake Elsinore

I recently reminded myself of this quote I’d shared before on my post Living In A Motorhome: Top 10 Things I Love!:

A good traveler has no fixed plans and is not intent on arriving.”  Lao Tzu

Though I wrote last week that we were moving our RV the next day… now it really is official: Ty and I finally headed out of San Diego today! We’re attending another Mike Watson Investing seminar, this time in Ontario (California, not Canada!). There aren’t that many RV parks to choose from in the Ontario area, so we decided to stay at Lake Elsinore - which is about a 45-minute drive away.

See, it’s not that easy to find attractive campgrounds (read: non-trailer-park-like) in the more densely populated areas. I researched for a while, and we gave ourselves a few choices: Rancho JurupaLake Skinner County Park (both Riverside County Parks), or Lake Elsinore Marina & RV Resort.

We decided on the latter and, though the marina is sure pretty when you first pull in, it’s right next to a major road (Hwy 74) and the traffic noise was too much for me.

So, we unhooked the toad, left our RV parked for a short spell, and took off in search of a more tranquil park. Just a mile or so back down the road, we discovered Lake Elsinore Campground - a park run by Rocky Mountain Recreation.

The Marina/Resort was busy and noisy with boats, lively kids, and that traffic - and was a tad run down. I didn’t care to pay $36/night. By comparison, this other campground is deliciously quiet, empty, and has lots of bunny rabbits and squirrels running around. Plus, a big meadow where we enjoyed a bike ride! And this park is $30/night. Mind you, that’s partial hook-ups but it’s perfect for our needs.

Today was a particularly warm (summer’s!) day: temperatures were in the 70’s when we left San Diego and by the time we got to Lake Elsinore, it was 82F on board the coach. Whew, I had to get out of my jeans and into shorts!

I took lots of video vignettes and will make a wee movie of our process of breaking camp and setting up again. It took the two of us a few hours. I guess we’re a tad out of practice. Hee hee.

Still, it sure feels good to be on the move again. Nature all around us and a glorious view of Lake Elsinore. We rode our bikes to go pick up yummy salmon steaks and cook on the electric grill. Delish!

We’ll be here three nights… and then we have plans to join some friends at The Westin Mission Hills Resort & Spa for some pampering time on Valentine’s Day… our seventh wedding anniversary!! (We’ve been joking about feeling itchy lately. ha ha). ;)

Bonjour Oza!! Great to hear from you. Thanks for the lovely comments. It’s sure amazing the variations in climate across our continent, eh?! :) I love the bunnies too - I call them “Thumper” from the movie, Bambi. hee hee
