Alaska, Here We Come! w00t!
Greetings from Prince George, northern British Columbia, Canada! Ty and I are having a blast working our way up to Alaska for the entire summer!! Yep, three whole months to explore one of the most incredible States. First time for both of us.
We just firmed up our route from Prince George up as far as Haines - check out this map:
And here’s a few pics coming through Vancouver and up through Whistler:
[I shot this last pic looking back out the RV window while Ty was driving, and was stunned at the results... this is on the way north past Whistler headed to Lillooet].
I have to share, I’m SO looking forward to having some breathing space. I’ve marked off chunks of time in my schedule, including the entire first week of July for a “real” vacation! Let’s see if I can stay away from the computer and my business for one full week. Hm, bet I have withdrawal symptoms like Tim Ferriss warns in his book, The Four Hour Workweek!
Got any work-life balance suggestions? For full time roadies?!

What kind of gas station availability is there on this route?
I’ve driven across the US many times and it always annoys me when people think there are 200-mile stretches with no gasoline. However, I guess I’ve always thought that about driving to Alaska, so I’m curious what the situation’s like.
Work-life balance? What’s that? If you love what you do, it’s more work to not-work. Read? Movies? Learn a new language/mathematics skill/programming language so you have something else to focus on?
May 23rd, 2008 at 4:25 pm@Marina - from Vancouver north to Prince George, then west to Prince Rupert there’s actually plenty gas stations!
LOL, I do totally love my work… I just need to take more breaks & exercise! Thanks for your great suggestions. Hubby and I love movies too - going out or staying in. We’d love to find places to dance along the way on our travels tho!

I think the key for work-life balance for full time roadies is slow travel. Take your time and make sure to have lots of play time. That is the whole purpose of being on the road right?

@Jason - yay!!! we’re ferrying along the Alaska Marine Hwy - from Prince Rupert to Ketchikan, side trip to Prince Edward Island; then ferry to Juneau, side trip to Sitka; then ferry to Haines. woo-hoo SO exciting!
@soultravelers - yes, of course! heaps of play time. excellent idea!!!
